"With these hands I could drive a minibus!"

Activities away from campus are essential for clubs and societies to experience everything they want to, so having drivers to get you there is vital as taking a minibus or people carrier will normally be the cheapest way to get to venues.

Before you will be able to book onto any of the tests, you must register at the Sports and Activities Centre and provide us with copies of your paper licence and driving licence card. Once the processes below are complete you will then be issued with a driver card which you will be required to show at the gatehouse whenever collecting keys for a vehicle (see How2"¦ book a vehicle and How2"¦ organise a trip ).

Car

To drive a car you must:

  • hold a current driving licence;
  • have been driving for at least one year; and
  • have no points on your licence.

If you qualify, you will then be issued with a driver card.

People Carrier

To drive a people carrier you must:

  • hold a current driving licence;
  • have been driving for at least one year; and
  • have no points on your licence.

If this is the case then you will be booked into a familiarisation session with our driving instructor. If you pass, you will then be issued with a driver card.

Minibus

To drive a minibus you must:

  • hold a current driving licence;
  • have been driving for three years;
  • be over the age of 21; and
  • have no points on your licence.

If this is the case then you are able to take the MiDAS test which will cover you under our insurance policy. This consists of a 20-question multiple-choice theory test (for which you will be provided with revision materials) and then an hour-long assessment with our minibus driver instructor. If you pass, you will then be issued with a driver card.
