UWESU Sport has teamed up with the Centre for Sport and created a new Intramural Programme for this academic year, ensuring that every UWE student, regardless of ability, has the chance to participate in fun and relaxed leagues and tournaments in several sports at an affordable cost.
With a real push to increase participation in recreational sport throughout the university, the opportunity to participate in sport is now more accessible that ever before.
What is it?
If you want to get active and play sport but don't want the committment and competition of a UWE representative sports team, then Intramural is for you. With a wide range of sports participating in the Intramural Programme you will be able to find something that suits what you're looking for.
From Football, Netball, Hockey and Badminton league programmes to proposed Basketball, Squash and Volleyball tournaments throughout the year, the opportunities to get involved with internal UWE competition are endless.
The new Intramural Programme is all about having fun. Why not form your very own team and challenge other university accomodation halls, flatmates, housemates, course mates, faculties, post-graduates, other sports and societies and if your feeling really brave, the UWE staff and UWESU staff. Any one can take part, and even if you aren't part of a ready made team, we'll find you one and then provide you with everything you need to get started.
Register you're interest at the UWESU Sports and Activities Centre or via email to this address:mark2.foster@uwe.ac.uk. We will either put you into a team or enter your team into one of the leagues. You then need to register online and pay membership to the Intramural Programme for your selected sport at: www.uwesu.org/register . It's really that easy.
There is alot more to gain from Intramural than just weekly playing time. Included in your Intramural Membership fee is the following:
- Weekly matches &/or knockout tournament for all teams/individuals officiated by qualified professionals to ensure good quality playing time
- Affiliation where applicable to the National Governing Body
- Insurance through UWESU's Endsleigh BUCS Gold Insurance Policy
- The opportunity to complete 1st aid courses free of charge (UWE students only)
- The opportunity of subsidised/free coaching & officials courses (UWE students only)
- A free Intramural playing t-shirt
All Intramural leagues for 2008 - 2009 are due to start mid October 2008.
Player Experiences
"Intramural was a great way to get involved and have a laugh with my friends, playing a sport I enjoy without any pressure. I'm definately joining again this year" Janine, 2008, 2nd Year Business and Politics Student
"I joined Intramural Football as a way of easing myself back into the sport after I suffered an injury a couple of years ago. Playing in weekly matche and meeting the current UWE squad members has given me alot confidence and I am planning on trailing for the respresentative squads this season" James, 2008, 1st Year Architecture and Planning Student
"Intramural Netball has always been run by current members of the UWE Netball Squad. Not only does it give us the opportunity to meet other people, we often spot players who are capable of playing in the representative squads and can therefore offer this opportunity to them. Gemma Gray, Netball President 2007-2008
Intramural Netball
The 2007-2008 sporting season saw another successful year of Intramural Netball. With a complete revamp of all Intramural Programmes throughout the University, recreational Netball at UWE is only set to get bigger and better for 2008-2009!
