Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance
- The University of the West of England has a Nursery Fee Remission Scheme. This is for students who may not be eligible for the LEA childcare grant. Subsidies are up to 85% of fees and they are means tested. Applications are made on the same form as the Access To Learning Fund, which you can pick up from your Union office. Full-time International, EU and post-graduate students are eligible to apply. Part-time students can apply only if they are undertaking more than 50% of full-time study.
- The Government also provides a number of supplementary funds for full-time undergraduate students (most of them are available to LEA students only). This includes the Childcare Grant, and the Parents' Learning Allowance. These are means-tested and are normally paid alongside the student loan, so you should be sent the forms when you apply to your LEA for financial assistance. You can also download these forms 'Application for help with childcare costs' (CCG1), and 'Confirmation of Childcare Payments' (CCG2), from the DfES website www.dfes.gov.uk/studentsupport/formsandguides/index.shtml
- There are also a number of state benefits that students may be able to apply for including Income Support, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. You may also be eligible for Child Tax Credits.
